There is one thing we learned while on this exciting coin research journey – Americans love commemorative coins so much they are willing to dedicate years in search of them! So knowing that fact, we decided to dedicate a few articles to some of the most interesting US commemorative coins series.

Nowadays we have the 50 State Quarter, Territories Quarters, America the Beautiful Quarters, and American Women Quarters series. Each series represents and honors different aspects of America, from culture to landmarks. Here we’ll focus on the Washington America The Beautiful Quarter value.

The US Mint produced a new commemorative coin series in 2010 which ended in 2021. These quarters were released in order based on when that specific location became a National Site. Keep in mind that there is no monetary difference in value between each ATB design, what makes the difference in value is quantity.

There is a significant difference between the prices of uncirculated and circulated coins. For instance, Washington America the Beautiful Quarters in circulated conditions are estimated to be worth between $0.30 and $7.50, while those in mint state are in the range up to $2,500.

If you are in a hurry, here’s a quick preview for you. In general, ATB Quarter coins are pretty common in circulation, hence their value is lower than you would like it to be. That means that coins in lower circulating grades will usually cost only their face value or a few dollars if you are lucky.

However, a lot of circulated coins are still in good condition and suitable as collecting examples. Here is the list of the 5 specimens we recommend you take a lot, they are worth investing in.

2020-W America the Beautiful Weir Farm NGC MS66

This series has a high collectible potential due to the fact there are 56 different designs for you to chase. Even though most coins from the ATB quarter series do not hold any specific value they are still incredibly popular and desired among collectors.

Why Is Washington America The Beautiful Quarter Special And Valuable?

As we all know the US quarter coin is one of the most loved and diverse coins. For the past, 100 years, this coin has undergone many different changes in design, mainly on the reverse side. The most notable changes appeared in the past 15 years in the desire to honor the aspects of American culture and history.

The America the Beautiful Quarters Program is a follow-up collection to a successful 50-State Quarter Program. The main purpose of this special program which was also called the National Park Quarter Program was to celebrate a national landmark from each state, territory, and the District of Columbia.

What makes them special is that from 2010 to 2021, the U.S. Mint released 5 quarters per year, until they made a total of 56 different quarter coins! Each quarter featured a reverse with a different design according to the scene from a national park or forest they represent. While the obverse remained the same as on all other Washington Quarters.

These coins have patriotic and emotional value, as well as historical. However, some proof coin varieties are made with 99% silver content and they weigh amazingly 5 ounces (155 grams)! It is pretty obvious why these coins are attractive to collectors, considering their melt value largely exceeds their face value.

Price Guide For Common Washington America The Beautiful Quarter Coins Worth Investing

Unfortunately, due to the abundance, there is a very small chance that your Washington ATB quarter coin while going to be worth more than a few dollars (if in good condition). They are too common and available in today’s circulation as well as on the coin market.

However, there is always an exception. Some coins do reach higher price tags no matter if they are made from silver or clad composition, we will leave you the list of currently most valuable coins further in the article.

But let’s first learn how many different coin varieties are there and their mintage volumes so we know what exactly we are dealing with.

America the Beautiful Quarter mint marks

If you took a good list at the table above you noticed that there are many different minting types of these coins. As you can see four different minting facilities produced these coins – San Francisco (S), Philadelphia (P), Denver (D), and West Point (W).

America the Beautiful Quarter mint marks

The mintage figures and volume of these coins are considerably less than the volume of State quarters which was 200-300 million for each design. As always Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) Mints were in charge of producing quarters intended for circulation.

The San Francisco (S) facility produced regular and proof coins in three different varieties – regular strike, clad proof, and silver proof. On the other hand, the West Point Mint facility produced regular strike coins in 2019 and 2020 for circulation, but in limited amounts of 2,000,000 per year, making them extremely rare and valuable.

Overall, the America the Beautiful series had average mintages of between 20 and 30 million quarters up until 2013. After that, the mintages went up from 100 to 300 million for each quarter design.

The Main Features Of The Washington America The Beautiful Quarter Coins

2015-S 25C Homestead NP

America the Beautiful also known as Nationa Park coinage features the re-designed obverse side with the original George Washington portrait designed by John Flanagan in the 1930s. You can see an image of the President facing right.

Above his head, the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is placed while on the opposite side, the inscription “QUARTER DOLLAR” is engraved. To the left side, just below his chin the word “LIBERTY” can be seen. Also, behind his neck, an “IN GOD WE TRUST” saying is struck in three lines. The mint mark is placed below this saying.

The reverse side is different on each coin depending on which state and landmark they represent. You can see which year portraits which national park in the table we wrote in this article.

Besides this, all coins feature the following inscription close to the rim on the reverse side:

  • Date of minting
  • The name of the State and the name of the displayed national park/landmark
  • “E PLURIBUS UNUM” inscription

List Of Errors Found On Washington America The Beautiful Quarters

America the Beautiful Quarter error is a relatively new so, for now, we know only about a few error varieties, however, that can all change in an instant. What is mesmerizing about coin collecting is that it may take many years to figure out all the varieties, error varieties, and exact values of the coin.

Considering that the minting technique evolved greatly in the past few decades, error coins are very rare but that is the exact reason why they are so valuable and sought-after. There are already numerous errors reported, in the short list below, we will mention a few of them and their current values.

  • Doubled obverse – A few coins minted at the Philadelphia Mint exhibit a doubling on the obverse side. These can be seen in a P mint mark, the phrase “In God We Trust”, and the word “Liberty”. These coins can pull an increased premium price, but the average value for these quarters is at $4 to $10 for an MS-65 graded specimen.
  • Clipped planchet error – Although rare, clipped planets still occur from time to time in the minting process. This particular type of error is easily spotted, considering that these quarters will completely miss an entire section of the coin. An error like this can pull prices over $75, while double and triple clips go over $100.
  • Missing clad layer error – These error coins have a copper-colored side due to the fact that improper bonding of metals causes the nickel layer to separate from the quarter. This leaves the copper core exposed on one side. An error like this can drastically vary in value depending on the condition of the coin, but an average price range is from $10 to $300.
  • Off-center error – An off-center strike is a result of improper collar loading. When the blank quarter planchet is misplaced and struck an error will cause both the obverse and reverse designs to be printed off-center. Depending on the degree of the offset an error like this will be worth from $10 and usually above $100.
